Prof. Craig Forrest is a distinguished Professor of Law and Director of the Marine and Shipping Law Unit, with expertise in maritime law, private international law, and cultural heritage law. His extensive research and publications have significantly influenced national and international public policy and the drafting of legislation. Professor Forrest has a notable association with UNESCO, where he has served as an advisor and consultant, contributing to regional cultural meetings and drafting model laws for the UNESCO UCH Convention.

He is actively involved in safeguarding cultural heritage, representing Australia on the International Law Association's Committee and the ICOMOS International Committee on Underwater Cultural Heritage. Additionally, he is the Federal Attorney-General appointed Australian correspondent to the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law. Professor Forrest also edits the Australian and New Zealand Maritime Law Journal and has held visiting positions at leading universities. His expertise is further enhanced by visiting research and teaching positions at renowned international universities.
