Raymond Gastil, AICP, LEED AP ND is a nationally recognized city planner, urban designer, and educator with over two decades of leadership in sustainable and inclusive city planning. He is the Director of Gastilworks Planning & Design, where he advances community-based urban design, public space planning, and strategic development initiatives. Raymond formerly served as Director of City Planning for Pittsburgh, where he led transformative programs on sustainability, affordable housing, riverfront redevelopment, and neighborhood planning.

He was also Director of the Remaking Cities Institute at Carnegie Mellon University and held key planning roles in New York City and Seattle. Raymond’s expertise spans transit-oriented development, mixed-use districts, campus planning, and revitalization of urban waterfronts. He has been instrumental in shaping policies and frameworks that link design excellence with equity and resilience. His distinguished public-sector roles include Planning Director for Seattle, Manhattan Office Director for NYC Planning, and Transit-Oriented Design Director at the Regional Plan Association.

A prolific author and thought leader, Raymond’s publications include Beyond the Edge: New York’s New Waterfront and Success Looks Different Now: Design and Cultural Vitality in Lower Manhattan. He currently serves as President-Elect of the Puget Sound Section of the American Planning Association Washington Chapter and is Affiliate Faculty at the University of Washington. Certified Sustainable City Planner (CSC™) Chartered Exam

At the end of the program, there will be a Chartered exam comprised of 50 multiple choice questions. Upon passing the exam, you will be accredited with Certified Sustainable City Planner (CSC™) designation.

  • 98% of students who have taken this exam have passed the exam successfully. Almost all professionals who have taken our courses have passed this test and attain their Certified Sustainable City Planner (CSC™) designation
  • The exam has 50 multiple choice questions and you need to answer 25 out of 50 questions correctly to pass exam
  • You can re-take the exam online as many times as you want, with no additional charges for retaking of exams
  • The program cost already includes the exam fees, so there are no additional charges for taking exam
