Canada's trade compliance environment has become materially more demanding. With total merchandise trade exceeding CAD 1.5 trillion annually and enforcement authorities intensifying scrutiny across exports, imports, and sanctions, the cost of compliance failure - measured in penalties, shipment stoppages, and reputational exposure - is no longer a peripheral risk. It sits at the center of trade strategy.

This certified program delivers the technical command and regulatory fluency that compliance leaders, trade professionals, and supply chain specialists require to operate effectively in this environment. What Can You Expect From This Live Program

Global trade is under unprecedented regulatory scrutiny, with over 80% of international trade flows subject to export controls, customs regulations, or sanctions measures. In Canada, non-compliance can result in penalties exceeding CAD 250,000 per violation under the Customs Act, while sanctions breaches under SEMA can trigger criminal liability, multimillion-dollar fines, and imprisonment. As sanctions regimes rapidly expand and enforcement intensifies, organizations must adopt robust compliance systems to avoid costly disruptions, legal exposure, and reputational damage in an increasingly high-risk global trade environment.

This certified live program will equip you with a comprehensive and practical understanding of Canada’s import-export control framework, sanctions regulations, and trade compliance obligations. You will gain in-depth knowledge of key legislation including the Export and Import Permits Act (EIPA), Customs Act, Special Economic Measures Act (SEMA), and the United Nations Act, alongside the roles of CBSA, FINTRAC, and Global Affairs Canada. The program will provide hands-on expertise in export classification under the Export Control List (ECL), permit application processes, customs declarations, tariff classification, and valuation methodologies, as well as sanctions screening and restricted party due diligence.

Additionally, you will work through real-world trade compliance scenarios, including CBSA audits and verifications, voluntary disclosures, sanctions evasion risks, and cross-border supply chain disruptions. You will learn how to manage compliance under CUSMA/USMCA rules of origin, navigate the Controlled Goods Program (CGP), and address complex areas such as technology transfers and deemed exports. The program will also explore trade remedies, anti-dumping and countervailing duties, and the operational impact of evolving Canada–U.S. trade dynamics.

Through case studies, practical exercises, and scenario-based discussions such as audit response simulations, sanctions screening failures, and origin verification challenges—you will translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable compliance strategies. By the end of the program, you will possess the technical expertise, regulatory insight, and operational confidence required to build defensible trade compliance programs, mitigate risk, and ensure full compliance across international trade operations.

Upon successful completion of the program, you will attain the Certification in Canada Import Export Control, Sanctions Regulations and Trade Compliance. This industry-recognized certification validates your expertise in import-export controls, sanctions regulations, and trade compliance, enhancing your professional credibility as a trusted compliance leader within one of Canada’s most complex and highly regulated international trade environments.
